DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PARTNERSHIP MINISTRY
2007

“Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me” Matthew 18.5
Since the first ECW team visited the Dominican Republic with Bishop Gray in the Spring of 2005, members of this partnership have supported the work of the Rev. Bob and Ellen Snow, our Episcopal missionaries in the DR. We know that education is an essential ingredient in improving the quality of life in a third world country like the Dominican Republic. That is why the scholarship program was begun by the Snows. Their Diocese is committed to providing an education to young people regardless of their ability to pay. A $300 scholarship can send a child to school for a whole year. It is a way to nourish the mind and the spirit of the young Dominicans.
During the 2006-2007 school year members of this partnership have written letters, made phone calls and spoken at various meetings sharing the needs of the Dominican Republic. Funding was given for 54 scholarships for underprivileged children attending Jesus Nazareno School in the city of San Francisco de Marcoris.
In August 2007 we returned as part of a work team to repair and restore Jesus Nazareno Church, and to continue building friendships and sharing our faith in God. We went to minister to them, but their love and belief in God served to strengthen us. Upon leaving, one former scholarship student handed us a thank you note that concluded with: “Thanks for your generosity and your sincere smile and your love to my person. I will remember you forever and I will have you present in my prayers. Keep going on the way of the Lord forever. God is everything for me and my fortress is the prayer. Remember, God loves you and now me too. The blessing of the Lord be on you like a waterfall. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be with you forever and ever. Sincerely, Luis”
